Rams Athletics to Host Dave Checketts as Guest Speaker

The Farmingdale State College Athletic Department is proud to announce that David Checketts, chairman of SCP Worldwide, will speak on Tuesday, October 21st. Mr. Checketts will be the guest speaker for all Farmingdale State student-athletes, sports management students and business students at the College from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m in Nold Hall.

David Checketts' biography covers areas of sports media, entertainment and major businesses around the world. He is currently the Chairman of SCP Worldwide, founded in 2001, and is known as one of the most heralded sports, media and entertainment executives. Under his direction, his company most recently acquired the St. Louis Blues of the NHL, to add to his many other assets. Mr. Checketts also serves on the Board of Directors of JetBlue Airways, serving as the Chairman, Compensation Committee for JetBlue.

Mr. Checketts began his career at Madison Square Garden as President of the New York Knicks in 1991. He eventually became President and Chief Executive Officer of MSG, where he oversaw all operations of one of the most powerful sports and entertainment companies globally, including "The Worlds Most Famous Arena" and its three sports franchises, the New York Knickerbockers, the New York Rangers and the New York Liberty. MSG, under his 10-year leadership, was named Arena of the Year for six straight years, but he holds most pride in establishing the MSG "Cheering for Children" foundation which created after school programs for thousands of New York City school children.

In 1983, Mr. Checketts was named President and General Manager of the Utah Jazz and at 28 years old became the youngest chief executive in the history of the NBA. During his six year tenure, the team captured two Midwest Division titles and enjoyed a multi-million dollar economic turnaround.

A Utah native, Mr. Checketts did his undergraduate studies at the University of Utah and earned his MBA from Brigham Young Univeristy (BYU) in 1981, where he graduated with top honors. He resides in Connecticut with his wife Deb. They have six children and two grandchildren.
