Dr. Robert Saunders Joins Farmingdale State College Faculty
Mr. George P. LaRosa , Officer-in-Charge at Farmingdale State College, welcomes Dr. Robert A. Saunders as an assistant professor in the History, Economics and Politics department.
Dr. Saunders, a Sea Girt, NJ resident, joins the Farmingdale faculty with ten years of experience in teaching. He has taught at Rutgers University , Wagner College , and Farleigh Dickinson University . Dr. Saunders current courses include "Science and the West: From Newton to the Present" and "The West and the World," and he hopes to offer a course on terrorism in the spring. His research interests include post-communist states, mass media, and minority politics. He has expertise in International Affairs, Central Asian Cultures, Cyber-Politics, Nationalism, Islamism, Russian Politics, and Political Violence.
As the Director of the Eastern Management Group, an international consultancy specializing in information and communications technology, he was a frequent guest speaker on a number of syndicated television shows and on National Public Radio.
He has published a number of articles in academic journals such as Nationalism & Ethnic Politics, Russia in Global Affairs, and Global Media and Communication , and regularly contributes to Transitions Online . Recently, his expertise in the political culture of Kazakhstan led Harper's Magazine to describe Dr. Saunders as "arguably the world's leading scholar on Borat, the fictional Kazakh TV reporter and alter ego of British comic Sacha Baron Cohen."
Dr. Saunders earned his PhD in Global Affairs at Rutgers University . He graduated from Stony Brook University with a MA in History and received his BA in History from the University of Florida .
