Farmingdale State Nursing Student Awarded Two Scholarships
On March 15, 2006 the Farmingdale Foundation and Alumni Association Student Scholarship Reception was held in Roosevelt Hall's Multipurpose Room at Farmingdale State University of New York. Over $76,000 worth of scholarship money was awarded to 48 students at the reception. Farmingdale State President Dr. Jonathan C. Gibralter is pleased to announce that Candylou Biederman is this year's recipient of the Helen S. Albrecht Memorial Scholarship. Ms. Biederman also was one of two recipients of the Estee Lauder Corporation Scholarship.
Ms. Biederman, a Lindenhurst resident, received her associate's degree over twenty years ago. She expects to graduate in May of this year with an A.A. in nursing and begin her work as a registered nurse. Ms. Biederman is a member of the Student Nursing Association and is active in the Lindenhurst Squires Organization which provides the opportunity for children to learn and play soccer. She is the mother of a fifteen year old son, Max.
Helen S. Albrecht was a long time Farmingdale resident who passed away in September 1997. Her parents
Charles O. and Jesse Schmidt owned Schmidt Hardware on Main Street in Farmingdale. Mrs. Albrecht's family chose
to honor her memory and commitment to higher education as well as Farmingdale State
by establishing this scholarship.
The Estee Lauder Corporation Scholarship is restricted to outstanding students from Long Island who have successfully completed chemistry or physics courses.
