George Fernandez Joins Farmingdale State College Faculty

Mr. George P. LaRosa , Officer-in-Charge at Farmingdale State College, welcomes George Fernandez as an assistant professor in the Visual Communications department.

George Fernandez, a Ridge resident, joins the Farmingdale full-time faculty after nine years as an adjunct professor. He has over 15 years experience teaching illustration, drawing, painting, and computer graphic design.

In addition to his work as an educator, Professor Fernandez has experience as a freelance illustrator. Since 1984, he has designed and executed mass market magazine editorial, book jacket and advertising art. During his career he illustrated drawings and paintings for some of the largest publishing and advertising companies in the U.S. including Bantam, Doubleday, Viking Penguin, Random House, Forbes, and the New York Times.

Professor Fernandez recently exhibited over 30 of his paintings and drawings at the Art Gallery at Gloucester County College in New Jersey . The exhibition was titled "Illustration Meets Fine Art: A Journey Through Two Decades of the Work of George Fernandez."

He earned his MFA in Illustration from Marywood University in Scranton and his MA in Illustration from Syracuse University . Professor Fernandez' masters thesis, "The Teachings of Harvey Dunn" was published in the most recent issue of Illustration Magazine . He graduated from School of Visual Arts with a BFA and from Hofstra University with a BBA. In addition, he earned an AS in Business Administration at Farmingdale.
