Matt Lorenz, Ph.D.

Matt Lorenz graduated with Distinction from the University of Virginia in 1999, and he completed his Ph.D. in British and American literature at Stony Brook University in 2011. His primary areas of specialization are British Romanticism, American fiction and Continental philosophy, and his dissertation, "Wordsworth's Philosophy of Wonder: Epistemology, Psychoanalysis, Phenomenology," earned awards for best dissertation chapter and best dissertation at Stony Brook. His book chapters appear in Disabling Romanticism, Jane Austen and Sciences of the Mind, and Adapting Frankenstein, and his articles on Transatlantic connections between British Romanticism and American literature appear in The Arthur Miller Journal. In his spare time, he writes fiction, collaborates on screenplays with friend and fellow UVA graduate, Adam Popp, and relaxes with his two daughters and his wife, Gina, who also teaches English.
