Margaret Porciello

Computer Systems Department, School of Business


Margaret Porciello has been involved in teaching in higher education for over 30 years. Her teaching interests lie in courses such as UNIX/Linux, Database Design and Development, and courses on scripting languages including Perl and PHP. 

Prior to entering the education field, Margaret worked as a Programmer-Analyst for a major utility company.

Margaret's research interests lie in the area of teaching and learning, and in using technology in the teaching/learning process. Her paper, "The Blackboard Learning System," written in collaboration with other presenters at a Conference of Instruction Technology, was published in The Journal of Educational Technology Systems.

Margaret received the Farmingdale Foundation Faculty Merit Award in 1991 and the Chancellors' Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2008.
