After working as a public and private accountant for thirty-five years, Ira entered the field of academia in 2006. He came to Farmingdale State as an adjunct in January 2006, and taught accounting, business, management and finance courses for the School of Business. He was elected to join the faculty of sports management department and has taught ten different courses in the curriculum, including the new senior seminar. He has helped to develop the department's curriculum and the addition of new courses in the program. He started the department speaker program at FSC with having Sandy Alderson, general manager of the NY Mets, address our students.
Ira is involved in many facets of campus life, including faculty president of Sigma Beta Delta, a business honor society; a secretary of the Farmingdale Executive committee, academic orientation leader, volunteer tutor in the EOP program, member of the Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology, member of the Farmingdale Intercollegiate Athletic Board and the Farmingdale State Faculty athletic representative to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
Ira has followed sports all his life. He has many memories of watching Jackie Robinson and the Brooklyn Dodgers play at Ebbets Field, watching the Knicks and Rangers play at the Old Madison Square Garden, and following the Mets at the Polo Grounds and at their first game at Shea Stadium. He was a fair stickball player in the parks of Brooklyn NY.
Ira has participated in various conferences such as; Ivy Symposium-Pennsylvania University, Hofstra University Dana Brand Memorial NY Mets Conference, and Hall of Fame-SUNY Oneonta Baseball Symposium.
Ira has also been a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
