About the Tutors


gerald a

Gerald A.
Peer Tutor

Gerald is a peer tutor who recently joined the Center to assist students in Biochemistry and Anatomy and Physiology courses. Gerald is currently in the process of working on his second Bachelor's degree in Bioscience and already holds a Bachelor's degree in Health Science of Nuclear Medicine Technology from Stony Brook University. He aspires to attend medical school to become a physician or anesthesiologist. He is a nationally certified pharmacy technician and has worked in the field of pharmacy for approximately four years. Outside of tutoring, Gerald can be found weight-lifting, running, exercising, and enjoys researching history, science, and different cultures.

Professional Tutor

Barbara is a professional tutor specializing in Anatomy and Physiology as well as Nursing courses. Barbara is a registered nurse and received her BSN from Adelphi University. Barbara brings with her a wealth of experience working in Acute Care Hospital Nursing, including Quality Management/Performance Improvement/Case Management and External Regulatory Reviews, to name a few. Outside of the Center, Barbara can be found working as a Disability Counseling Specialist in the Disability Services Center on campus, as a volunteer coach for the NYS Special Olympic Swim team, and as the Program Supervisor for Farmingdale SPLASH - an instructional swimming team for youths with special needs.


Brian

Brian B.
Peer Tutor

Brian is a peer tutor for several Biology and Chemistry courses and also for Computer Concepts and Applications. Brian is a junior enrolled in the Bioscience program. During his free time, he enjoys listening to and playing music, learning new things, and playing strategy games.

John is a peer tutor for numerous Biology and chemistry courses. John is a senior and a Bioscience major who helped form the Pre-Health/Pre-Med club. On campus, he can be found conducting research with the Physics department. In his free time, John enjoys music, playing the guitar, and serves as a volunteer emergency medical technician (EMT). 

Ernesto Ernesto C.
Peer Tutor
Ernesto is a peer tutor for many Computer Systems courses and is going into his second semester tutoring at the Center. He is a junior and a Computer Programming and Information Systems major with a concentration in the Programming track. Ernesto is also an international student from the Dominican Republic. His interests include mobile application development as well as developing web/cloud back-ends for those mobile applications.

Peer Tutor
Brad is a peer tutor for Anatomy & Physiology and Nursing courses. He is a freshman in the Nursing program and this is his first semester tutoring at the Tutoring Center. On campus, he is a member of the Student Nurses Association. In his free time, Brad enjoys running and reading.

Marty Marty C.
Professional Tutor
Marty is a professional tutor and widely known around the Center as the "go-to" tutor. Marty has a vast knowledge in many subject areas and has been tutoring at the Center for over 20 years in a wide array of Business, Accounting, Economics, Finance, and Math courses. Marty has a degree in Electrical Technology from NYIT and has experience working as a Service Manager for computerized Machine tool dealer, a Production Manager for an educational and psychological device manufacturer, as well as working as a news writer and Disc Jockey for a radio station. During his off time, Marty can be found reading new books, working on investments, and performing computer maintenance. 

Lester Lester D.
Professional Tutor

Lester is a professional tutor for Electrical Engineering, Math, and Physics courses at the Center. He has been tutoring at the Center for the past three semesters. Lester holds several degrees, including a Bachelor's and Master's in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University as well as a Bachelor's degree from Queens College and a MBA from Adelphi University. Prior to joining the Center, Lester worked for many years at Standard Microsystems Corp, General Instrument Corp, and Sperry Gyroscope in positions that involved chip design and computer design. He has also worked in retirement pension accounting for over a decade. Outside of tutoring, Lester can be found completing NY Times Crossword puzzles, playing bridge, and serving as a volunteer for AARP tax assistance.  


Juana

Juana D.
Peer Tutor

Juana is a peer tutor for Construction, Math, and Physics courses and is going into her third semester tutoring at the Center. She is a junior and a dual major in Architecture and Construction Management. As an international student hailing from the Dominican Republic, Juana resides on campus where she is actively involved. She currently serves as President of the Society and Women Engineers club and is also Vice-President of the Golden Key International Honor Society.

Lou

Lou D.
Peer Tutor

Lou is a tutor this semester for several Biology, Chemistry, and Physics courses. He is a senior in the Bioscience program and has many years of prior tutoring experience. In his free time, Lou enjoys playing music. A drummer since the age of five, Lou often performs across New York State. In addition to music, Lou enjoys spending as much time possible with his 120-lb St. Bernard dog "Snoopy".

Jesse

Jesse D.
Peer Tutor

Jesse is a peer tutor for Computer Systems focusing on programming courses. Jesse is a junior studying Computer Programming and Information systems with a concentration in the Programming track. Jesse is enthusiastic about helping students with programming as he has spent over a decade creating video game servers, building business management systems, and creating anti-cheating software for online gaming tournaments. He is also currently working on a mobile application involving communication and photo sharing.

Bob Bob G. (returning in early April)
Professional Tutor
Bob is a professional tutor for numerous Electrical Engineering, Math, and Physics courses. Bob has worked at the Center for the past twelve years and brings to the Center many years of experience as an electrical engineer, including over 40 years of experience with missile guidance/navigation systems, NASA space study projects, and designing high accuracy gravity measurement systems, to name a few. Bob holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from NYIT and has completed graduate coursework at NYIT, MIT, UCLA, and NYU Polytech. Bob has also served as an adjunct Physics instructor at LIU Post. 

Dean

Dean L.
Professional Tutor

Dean is a professional tutor for several Biology and Chemistry courses. Dean is a proud alumnus of Farmingdale State and graduated in May 2013 with his Bachelor's in Bioscience with a minor in Chemistry, Summa Cum Laude. Dean began tutoring for the Chemistry department and later joined the Center as a peer and later as a professional tutor.  Dean worked for two years as a lab assistant for the Genetics Center, Inc. and was President of the Biology Club on campus. He has also completed graduate coursework at Stony Brook University and is currently in the process of applying to medical schools with the hopes of completing his MD in the near future. In his free time, he enjoys photography, biking, and koi keeping. Dean also volunteers for causes such as Autism Speaks and helps out with blood drives. 

Mike Mike L.
Professional Tutor

Mike is a professional tutor for Electrical Engineering, Math, and Physics courses. He especially enjoys working with students taking upper-level courses to help them solve complex problems. Mike has been tutoring at the Center for over a decade and was previously an adjunct math professor at a nearby college. Mike is also a retired Electrical Engineer where he worked for over thirty years in Microwave and Radar System Design at Norden Systems and AIL Inc,. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from CUNY City College and a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute - LI Graduate Center.


Rayhan Rayhan M.
Peer Tutor

Rayhan is a peer tutor for several Electrical Engineering and Math courses. Rayhan is a junior and is currently dual majoring in both Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Rayhan is an international student from the Dominican Republic and lives on campus where he is involved with numerous activities. Aside from going into his fourth semester of tutoring, he is a member and chapter president of the Golden Key International Honor Society as well as a member of the C-STEP club.  In his free time, Rayhan loves to play the guitar, write songs, as well as read and write poetry. Rayhan is also very enthusiastic about electricity, electronics, and technology, but also enjoys learning about pretty much anything.

Alan is a peer tutor who tutors in Electrical Engineering and Math courses. Alan is a junior majoring in Electrical Engineering and is an international student from the Dominican Republic. On campus, Alan is a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society. Alan has a strong passion for technology and is interested in low level programming using assembly language.

Cesar is a peer tutor for several Computer Systems courses. He is a senior in the Computer Programming and Information systems program with a concentration in the Programming track. Cesar is an international student coming from the Dominican Republic and lives on campus.


Muhammad Muhammad Q.
Peer Tutor
Muhammad is a peer tutor who tutors in several Computer Systems courses. He is a senior and Computer Programming and Information systems major with a concentration in the Programming track. Muhammad works on campus in the Student Success Center as a work-study and helps out with the graduation and job fairs. He also previously played soccer on FSC's Intramural team. Outside of the Center, Muhammad enjoys watching soccer, playing FIFA, and works as an Associate Manager at a self-storage company. 

Liselot Liselot R.
Peer Tutor

Liselot is a peer tutor for many Computer Systems courses. She is a senior enrolled in the Computer Programming and Information systems program and can often be found running around Whitman Hall helping out the Computer Systems department. Liselot is an international student from the Dominican Republic and currently lives on campus. In her free time, Liselot can be found rooting for Liverpool FC football team on the English Premier League.


Randy Randy R.
Peer Tutor

Randy is a peer tutor for many Computer Systems courses. He is a senior enrolled in the Computer Programming and Information systems program with a concentration in the Programming track. Randy is an international student from the Dominican Republic and currently lives on campus. He is involved with the Golden Key Honor Society, Programming Club, and Tech Club. In his free time, Randy enjoys listening to music, developing software, playing videos games, and hanging out with friends. 


Joe Joe S.
Professional Tutor
Joe is a professional tutor for many Biology courses at the Center. Joe holds a Bachelor's degree in Bioscience from FSC and is currently taking graduate courses at Stony Brook University.In January 2013, he interned for Dr. Lutz in the Biology department and attempted to turn algae into a better biofuel. In his past life, Joe was a former music performance and audio engineering major at Five Towns College before switching into the biology and science field. Outside of tutoring, Joe can be found giving group guitar lessons at a new community arts center in Central Islip, and recording music with several Long Island bands.

Melissa Melissa S.
Peer Tutor

Melissa is a peer tutor for select Architecture, Construction, and Physics courses. She is a junior enrolled in the Architecture and Construction program. Melissa is a resident student as well as an international student whose home country is the Dominican Republic. She is involved on campus in the Society of Women's Engineers where she currently serves as the Vice-President.

Professional Tutor

Mike is a professional tutor for Anatomy & Physiology, Chemistry, and Physics courses at the Center. Mike holds a Bachelor's degree from Binghamton University and is currently taking courses in the Health Studies certificate program as preparation for medical school. In his spare time, Mike enjoys cooking and computer programming. Prior to tutoring, Mike worked in a law office for three years.

Diana is a peer tutor who specializes in Medical Laboratory and Chemistry courses. She has a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from CUNY Hunter Honors College and is currently working on her Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology. In her free time, Diana enjoys to practice yoga, to volunteer at Syosset Hospital and to take care of her Pomeranian-shitsu puppy, Teddy. 

Jairo Jairo V.
Peer Tutor
Jairo is a peer tutor for several Computer Systems courses. He is a senior Computer Programming and Information Systems major who is actively involved on campus. Jairo is a Senator for the School of Business in Student Government, Webmaster and Newsletter Editor for the Golden Key International Honor Society, a member of the Focus Photography Club, a member of the Latin American Student Organization (LASO), and a member of the Fall 2014 Welcoming Committee. A native of the Dominican Republic, Jairo enjoys traveling, as well as technology, movies, anime, and learning about psychology. 

Fran Fran W.
Professional Tutor
Fran is a professional tutor who specializes in most English, History, Psychology, and Speech courses and also provides students with Study Skills and Test-Taking strategies.  Fran holds a Bachelor's degree in Education from Brooklyn College, a Master's degree in Special Education from Hofstra University, and a professional certificate from New York University. A retired certified educator, Fran brings over thirty years of experience of working in diverse educational settings and with diverse learners to the Center and loves to meet with new students.
