The TRIO Student Support Services Staff and Faculty Welcome You.

TRIO Student Support Services is funded by the U.S. Department of Education. We serve students who are first-generation college (students whose parents have not completed a Bachelor's degree), students who are low-income, and students with disabilities. We provide the support you need to stay in school, finish your degree, and if desired, pursue graduate study. TRIO is a selective program limited to 193 FSC students per year. We seek eligible students who are ready and willing to actively participate in our program.

Why join TRIO?

Research shows that students who make strong, meaningful connections with faculty, staff, and other students early in their college careers tend to have higher rates of degree completion than those who do not. The staff at TRIO understands the research, and because of this understanding, we have a two-week Summer Bridge Program to assist with the transition of being a high school senior to a college freshman. We also understand the challenges of being the first in the family to go to college while managing finances and trying to work through disabilities. We use our experience and expertise to help you achieve at your highest potential.

The free services we provide include:

  • Counseling: Academic, personal, and career counseling to guide you and help you overcome obstacles encountered in college. This includes preparation for graduate or professional school, assistance setting up internships and undergraduate research opportunities, and help with financial aid applications.
  • Tutoring: Assistance in recognizing academic challenges as they arise, motivating you to take action, and referring students to the appropriate services on the campus.
  • First-Year Experience: This two-semester course provides ongoing guidance needed to make it through the first year of college in a friendly setting with other TRIO students. This course includes field trips to cultural events and opportunities to give back to your community.
  • Summer Bridge Orientation: We help you get a head start during an intensive two-week residential summer program in which you’ll get inside information about the realities of college life from faculty, staff, and students. You will also receive personal academic advising, all while making new college friends and participating in fun activities and field trips.

Who are we looking for?

We seek first-generation, low-income, and/or students with disabilities who are serious about college success and can truly benefit from our program’s offerings. We want students who are willing to put in the hard work required to achieve their goals and grow as leaders to those following in their footsteps.

Application Process

First, fill out the TRIO application online. We will review your application and invite selected students for in-person interviews. You will be notified of our decision within 10 working days.
