Fall Formal Recruitment
The Panhellenic Association oversees formal recruitment during the fall semester. All interested women must register for formal recruitment through RamCentral. Formal recruitment is a structured recruitment process where interested women have the opportunity to meet all sororities throughout a series of events. It is highly encouraged that interested women attend as many events as possible to ensure they have met members in each sorority. Below is an example of each round of recruitment:
Round 1: Open House
This is the first round of recruitment where interested women will meet with the Panhellenic Association and their Recruitment Counselors. This is a great opportunity to ask the Recruitment Counselors any questions pertaining to sorority recruitment. Potential new members will then briefly meet with each sorority for 30 minutes. Dress attire is casual.Round 2: Philanthropy Round
In the second round of recruitment, potential new members will meet with each sorority for 45 minutes to learn about their specific philanthropic causes and activities they hold to raise money and promote awareness. Dress attire is casual.
Round 3: Sisterhood Round
In the third round of recruitment, potential new members will meet with each sorority for 45 minutes to learn about the importance of sisterhood, and what sisterhood means to each member of the sorority. Dress attire is casual.
Round 4: Preference Party
The preference party is an "invite only" round, intended for each sorority to showcase the special bonds they have created throughout their years of membership. The ceremony typically lasts for one hour, and the dress attire is formal.
Round 5: Bid Day
Bid day is the final day of recruitment, where potential new members who completed the process will be extended a bit to join one of the sororities. Members of the sororities gather together in anticipation of the final bids. At the bid day ceremony, the new members are joined with their new organization, and Recruitment Counselors reveal their chapter affiliation. Dress attire is casual -- Sororities may give their members a t-shirt or tank top at the celebration.
What is a Recruitment Counselor?
Recruitment counselors, or Pi Chi's, are current members of sororities who have temporarily disaffiliated from their organizations in order to help potential new members find their perfect fit. Psi Chi's are assigned to small groups of potential new members to give unbiased opinion throughout the entire recruitment process. At the end of recruitment, Pi Chi's reveal their sorority affiliation and rejoin their sisters at the Bid Day ceremony. During the recruitment process, please do not pressure the Pi Chi's to reveal their affiliation, and if you already know their affiliation, do not spread this information to other potential new members.
Spring Informal Recruitment
Informal recruitment takes place in the spring semester. Sororities who are interested in taking new members in the spring are responsible for planning and hosting their own recruitment events -- There is no Panhellenic Association involvement, and no official online registration. The events can range from more formal recruitment rounds, to extremely informal meetings. Informal recruitment events will be advertised by the sororities who wish to take new members, and the schedule will be posted online.
