Expansion Guidelines

Introduction

Farmingdale State College support its students' right to assemble and form groups based on shared interests, values, and mission. To support our students, the Office of Student Activities creates opportunities for learning, involvement, and development.

Due to the complex nature of Fraternities and Sororities, the Office of Student Activities has developed a specific procedure for the expansion of new Greek-Lettered Organizations. Farmingdale State College recognizes that the expansion/extension of Greek-lettered organizations involves several parties: the inter/national fraternity or sorority, the college, and the Greek Council.

Current Expansion Projects

  • Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity ( Alpha Sigma Phi Website) starting October 8th.
  • Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
  • Panhellenic Extension: Decision will be made by Tuesday, June 26th.
    • Finalist include: Sigma Sigma Sigma, Delta Phi Epsilon, and Alpha Sigma Alpha

Polices and Procedures

  • The College's expansion policy/procedure for Fraternities and Sororities is administered by the Office of Student Activities(OSA)
  • Farmingdale State College does not recognize the expansion of "local" organizations. All organizations must be affiliated with an inter/national office.
  • In order to begin the expansion or re-activation of a Fraternity/Sorority, the inter/national office must submit, in writing, a letter of intent both via mail and email.
This letter must be sent to:
    • Lukas Miedreich, Coordinator of Fraternity/Sorority Life
      2350 Broadhollow Rd.
Farmingdale, NY 11735 Conklin Hall 111
      Email: Lukas.miedreich@farmingdale.edu
  • The letter must include the reasons for the need to expand to Farmingdale State College, intentions of the respective national office, and if there is an interest group of students involved in the expansion.
