What Should You Do Next?
Congratulations on making this important decision. The information below will assist you in your transition to becoming a successful Farmingdale State student. Please read carefully, and if you need further clarification, information or support, contact the Orientation Office at 631-420-2104.
Things to do
-Pay your Advanced Tuition Deposit ($100) by mail or in person. Bring your letter of acceptance to the Student Accounts office in Laffin Hall. View directions to the campus. Your deposit must be received prior to advisement and registration.
-Determine if free placement testing is needed for English and Math, via a letter from the Admissions Office. Taking these tests prior to Orientation will facilitate your academic advisement and registration. Please contact Placement Testing for an appointment at 631-420-2629.
-Submit your student immunization records. In accordance with NYS law, all new students must submit proof of immunization and their health records to the Health and Wellness Center. You must sign a meningitis info sheet (pdf). Failure to do either one or both of these in a timely manner automatically results in disenrollment of the student. There are no refunds for students who fail to comply with this state law.
-ALL INCOMING STUDENTS MUST REGISTER FOR ORIENTATION. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING TO DETERMINE YOUR PROGRAM:
- Incoming High School Students: Mandatory on-campus orientation sessions will next occur in Summer 2019. Please be advised the Summer 2019 dates are still being finalized and more information will be available soon. You MUST attend ONE of the Summer dates. Please note: the on-campus orientation sessions are offered in the Summer for incoming Fall first-time students from High School ONLY and run from 8:30am-4:30pm. The fee is $110.00 per student. The mandatory fee for the program includes materials, programs and services. Please be aware there is an OPTIONAL orientation program for parents ($20.00 fee per parent) which will run from approximately 9am-2:30pm the same day as the student's program of choice. Students are required to arrive outside Laffin Hall the day of their program by no later than 8:30am as check-in will begin promptly at this time. Parents check-in location will be provided in the email sent to students reminding them of their program.
- Transfer students or first-time FSC students starting classes in the Winter 2019 or Spring 2019 terms have a separate, online-only orientation program with NO in-person component. These students should complete their unique online reservation form.
-Visit the Advisement Directory. Click on your degree program and then to your major to learn the precise instructions to follow for advisement and registration for fall courses.
-Set up your student e-mail account. This is the primary means of communication used by the College. Registered students are provided with an e-mail account and you are expected to check it regularly. See our email FAQ for more information.
-Decide on a meal plan. Students, whether commuters or residents, are eligible for a wide variety of meal plans and dining options. The Office of Dining Services is located in the Farmingdale Campus Center, right next to the Campus Center Marketplace.
