Candidate's Checklist

The following is a checklist you can download to ensure that you have done everything needed before the Spring Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10:00 AM (for the Schools of Business and Health Sciences) or at 3:00 PM (for the Schools of Arts and Sciences and Engineering Technology). If you have any questions about the ceremony, you can email Please let your guests know that no backpacks, coolers or umbrellas will be allowed into the graduation area.  Additionally, all individuals may be subject to search prior to admittance. 

Check the spelling of your name for the commencement program after you have filed your Intent to Graduate form.  (Deadline: Thursday, April 2, 2015.) You can check the spelling of your name by going to OASIS a few days after filing the form.

Visit the Barnes and Noble Bookstore to purchase a cap and gown on or after Monday, April 13, 2015.
NOTE:  The bookstore will be open during normal business hours during the week of May 11-15. If you are unable to make it into the bookstore, please call them at 631-249-3048. The bookstore will be open prior to the morning ceremony and prior to the afternoon ceremony, but will certainly be crowded. (Students must wear caps and gowns to participate in the graduation ceremony.) 
The bookstore will use its facebook page at to announce the arrival of the caps and gowns.

Obtain tickets to graduation for your guests.  Tickets will be distributed between 11:00 AM-6:00 PM in the Campus Center Lobby on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 5, 2015 and May 6, 2015. Each student is entitled to six (6) tickets. All tickets are free.

Unable to obtain tickets on the above dates?  If so, email the Dean of Students at Six (6) tickets are available for each student.  There may be some VERY LIMITED extra tickets. If there are any extras, these will be made available during the week of May 11 at the Dean of Students office in Laffin 314 from 10:00 AM- 4:00 PM.  If you are unable to come during these hours, please email the Dean of Students at   All extra tickets are free.

Please be aware that the graduation will be taking place inside the gymnasium in Nold Hall.   You will be walking up the platform stairs to shake the President's hand and receive your diploma cover.  You should dress accordingly.  High heels are not recommended. To maintain the dignity of the ceremony, we ask all students to dress appropriately.

Pick up previously ordered caps and gowns, which will be distributed only at the bookstore on or after Monday April 13. It is very important that when you pick up your cap and gown, you open the package and check to see that you have everything that you are supposed to have: cap, gown, black tassel (Latin Honors students will receive a gold tassel during check-in at graduation), hood (Bachelor degree) or bib (Associate degree).  Also, you should try on the cap and gown to make sure it fits. This will help avoid problems on the day of commencement.

You MUST attend the pre-ceremony lineup and instructions.   For the 10:00 AM ceremony, students must report to the Auxiliary Gym in Nold Hall no later than 8:15 AM, and no later than 1:45 PM for the 3:00 PM ceremony
