Participants will get an overview of the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) and basic functionalities.

After completion, instructors will be able to:

Blackboard Advanced (faculty)

Participants who are already trained in the Blackboard LMS will learn about time-saving techniques utilizing advanced Blackboard tools.

After completion, instructors will be able to:

  • Organize content for seamless navigation
  • Create Groups for group assignments
  • Utilize Content Collection for file storage and sharing

Blackboard Grade Center Demystified

Participants will be learn how to set up and customize the grade center in the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) for their classes. 

Upon completion, instructors will be able to:

  • Create grade center items and adjust settings in columns, rows, and assignments
  • Create categories and weighted columns for grade calculations
  • Streamline grade center for automated calculations such as rubrics

Online Assessments: Tools & Tips

Participants will explore techniques and methodologies around facilitating meaningful learning activities for students.

Upon completion, instructors will be able to:

  • ·        Create Assignments with SafeAssign to encourage originality and prevent plagiarism
  • ·        Setup Discussion Forums for sharing thoughts and ideas asynchronously
  • ·        Offer Tests and Quizzes to check students’ knowledge and skill level
  • Add blogs, journals, and wikis to courses on Blackboard.

Online Collaboration for Increased Engagement

Blackboard Collaborate Ultra is a real-time video conferencing tool for providing a synchronous interactive online learning experience to students.

Upon completion, instructors will be able to:

  • Identify and utilize basic recording tools
  • Share whiteboard, files, and software applications to interact with students via chat, webcam or microphone
  • Offer virtual office hours, invite guest speakers, deliver and record lectures, provide online panel presentations and discussions
  • Check students’ understanding of the topic by giving polls, and record sessions for later playback.

Participants will become familiarized with the Ensemble video streaming system that allows for uploading of content within the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS).

Upon completion, instructors will be able to:

  • Upload video files to Ensemble through Blackboard Learn
  • Configure settings for viewing in content area
  • Create video dropboses for student video presentations

Creating Videos for Online Instruction: Panopto

Participants will exploring how to create, edit, share, and stream high quality videos and screen captures using the Panopto video platform.

Upon completion, instructors will be able to:

  • ·        Identify basic recording tools
  • ·        Change sharing permissions to enable student access in different courses
  • ·        Edit captions to make videos accessible
  • Add quizzes to videos to ensure student understanding and engagement.

Blackboard Mobile App for Instructors

This workshop is a complete overview of the Blackboard Mobile Learn app that can be used on any Apple, Android, Windows and even Blackberry!  This app helps instructors and students move through courses to access rich content and information from their courses on the go!

  • Download and install app to their device
  • Navigate device features and course layout

Communities of Inquiry (CoI) Framework for Effective Online Teaching

Participants will explore ways to increase online community building and engagement using the CoI framework. 

Upon completion, instructors will be able to:

  • Discuss strategies for implementation in online/hybrid classes to foster communities of inquiry
  • Identify ways to support collaborative engagement and learning in online/hybrid courses
  • Promote techniques to increase teacher presence as one of the CoI framework structures and discuss impacts on social and cognitive presence

Discussing and identifying tools and techniques that engage learners beyond text-based discussion forums.

  • Identify and discuss student-centered teaching and learning approaches that leverage technology

Qwickly is a tool that allows faculty to set up attendance rosters with automatic check in, comments and automated grading (for attendance).

Upon completion, instructors will be able to:

  • Setup attendance rosters for each course
  • Configure attendance for different attendance taking modes
  • Configure attendance for grading and notification

Creating & Using Rubrics to Enhance Teaching Effectiveness and Student Learning Outcomes

Rubrics provide clear guidelines and expectations of quality to students on diverse types of assignments.

Upon completion, instructors will be able to:

  • ·        Identify different types of rubrics
  • ·        Create a new rubric in Blackboard
  • ·        Attach rubrics to Discussions and Assignments

Making Content ADA and Accessible

 

This workshop will introduce instructors to Blackboard Ally that helps to detect inaccessible content in courses, provides instructions for remediation and converts files to alternative formats that meet students’ individual needs.

Upon completion, instructors will be able to:

  • Improve the accessibility of their course content in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Create accessible Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and PDF files
  • Use Blackboard Ally tools to remedy inaccessible content.
