Open Studios are available on a monthly basis for members of the Long Island community to draw, paint, or create works in an appropriate environment. Open Drawing studios, for example, offer live drawing models.
PortfolioFest is an event hosted every November by the Visual Communications Department in an effort to provide guidance to prospective applicants from Manhattan to Montauk.
Open House is hosted by the College every fall and spring. Prospective students interested in Visual Communications are provided with a guided tour of the department’s facilities, as well as an opportunity for feedback on their portfolios.
Applicants can also contact the department directly to arrange a preliminary portfolio review.
Many of our students take advantage of opportunities to enter into design competitions including Print Magazine’s cover competition, the Best of SUNY Art Student Competition and The Society of Illustrators. These competitions are invaluable to the development of the student and our students are regularly honored with awards.
The Memorial Gallery, which is located in Nathan Hale Hall, brings together the campus community for inspiring exhibitions of locally and nationally known artists. Students have the opportunity to participate in opening events, talk with the artists and attend their lectures. In their senior year, students can exhibit their own work in the Gallery.
