With over 30 years of experience in the field of education, Dr. Schoenacher is an Associate Professor in the Computer Systems Department at Farmingdale State College, where she has been teaching since 1998. Her teaching interests include courses in systems analysis and design, management information systems, and Web development. She is highly involved with the Department’s assessment activities, active in curriculum development, and played an integral part in the creation of the Department’s Web Development Track. She is currently the Co-Editor of the BCS Newsletter and a continuing member of the Fulbright Scholarship Committee at the College.

Her Ph.D. is in Information Studies from Long Island University, C. W. Post. She has won awards for the Elizabeth K. Reilly Scholarship and the Doctoral Students Research Competition for her work, "Orality and Literacy in a Suburban Town Community," as well as the Best Paper Award at the 2008 Business & Economics Conference. Her paper, "Fostering Social Capital in Online Discussions: Preparing Students with Real World Interaction Skills" has recently been published in the proceedings of the Conference on Computing in the Disciplines, April 2008. She presented her paper entitled, "Community Websites: A Main Street Perspective" at the 2009 Conference on Information Systems Applied Research (CONISAR) in Washington, DC.

Sheryl enjoys gardening organically, studying meditation, and reading about alternative health. She resides in Massapequa, NY, with her husband, Bob.
