In the Spotlight – Patricia Pickford, '10
A graduate of our business management program, Trish aspires to a career in sports marketing that will blend her love of sports—she was a co-captain of the college's championship soccer team—with her interest in global industry practices. In fact, she participated in an exchange program with Facultat D'Economia IQS at Ramon Llull University in Barcelona. One of only four students accepted to the program, she spent the spring semester of her junior year in taking classes and learning the business culture of Spain and other European nations.
"I have always wanted to travel and experience new cultures and I hope to gain knowledge of international marketing that I can apply in the future," Trish says. "And I knew it an exciting experience to live on my own."
In addition to her time in the classroom, studying and working, Trish was involved in a variety of campus activities. She was a member of Farmingdale's women's soccer team since her freshman year, and for two consecutive years helped lead the team to the Skyline Conference title.
"The championships were definitely highlights for me," Trish says. "But even more than that, I found that as a commuter, being on a team gives you such a sense of community on campus. In my time here at Farmingdale, I saw a change in the atmosphere. More students were coming to games and getting involved.
"I think the education at Farmingdale is equal to that of any other college," Trish says. "The professors here are always accessible and supportive. I know that I developed lifelong relationships with my teammates and friends from here."
