In the Spotlight – Juan Leon, '12
While working for the Suffolk County Veterans Service Agency, he continued to pursue his degree at Farmingdale, and in 2012, Juan earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Bioscience.
“I learned a lot by serving my country,” Juan says. “I also learned a lot at Farmingdale. Both experiences prepared me for the real world—of course, in different ways. Both showed me how to be the best I could be, but at the same time function as part of a team. Both experiences have contributed to my ability to do what I’m doing now.”
Juan is currently employed by The United States House of Representatives. As a veteran’s liaison for Congressman Steve Israel, Juan works closely with Federal Agencies to resolve issues for Long Island veterans. Juan is also a life member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion, and The Farmingdale State College Alumni Association.
“I chose Farmingdale because it allowed me to continue my education locally, cost-efficiently, and because the professors were very knowledgeable,” Juan said. “So you could say that I have had two career-shaping experiences: serving my country and graduating from Farmingdale.”
