50 Year Class Reunion, May 16th & 17th,
2009
Attached you will find pictures from our Class of 1959 50 Year Reunion, held May 16 and Commencement, held May 17. This event is one of our favorites to plan. This year’s attendance was impressive, and we filled the University Club to capacity! This year we had the benefit of dynamic alum, Carl Lanzisera who personally located and contacted many of his fellow classmates who we had lost touch with long ago. His efforts produced the best attended 50 Year Reunion ever, and we are grateful for his commitment. The Reunion started with a campus tour conducted by current Alumni Association board member, Shyann Comrie, 2007, As the alumni walked the campus, they were impressed with the progress the college has made, but were disappointed that little of what they recall was still evident on the campus. The Dinner and Reception began at 5:00 p.m., with the arrivals of our Class of 1959 participants, and college dignitaries. As they checked in alumni received nametags depicting their yearbook pictures. Many had not changed all that much! They were greeted with music from their era, and a festive atmosphere. The cocktail hour allowed for reconnection and rekindling friendships. Pictures were taken and once everyone was seated, we began the program. Welcome remarks from Judy McEvoy, ’61, Alumni Association President, Eileen Hasson, Director of Alumni Affairs and College President Hubert Keen followed. Everyone enjoyed the dinner and Class of 1959 chairperson, Carl Lanzisera’s humorous remarks and recollections. After President Keen hosted a "Farmingdale Past and Present" presentation, the focus was on our participants and sharing their memories. As individuals took the microphone, the room was filled with warmth and camaraderie. Once edited, we plan to put the video on the web page. The lasting friendships made while attending Farmingdale were a recurrent theme, and everyone had wonderful memories to contribute. There was a lot of laughter! We also created a special "journal" where Class of 1959 members submitted forms that resulted in an updated yearbook about their current status, even if they were unable to attend the reunion. In addition, Carl Lanzisera’s assistant Joyce Schorr who attended with her husband Marty and was instrumental in locating some of our Class of 1959 alumni. This event is becoming a favorite of Alumni Affairs, and we want to thank those participants who also attended Commencement on Sunday, May 17. Thank you to all who donated towards the Class Gift, and our thanks go to everyone who was involved in the planning of this special tradition.
