March 9, 2016
Farmingdale State College’s Theresa Patnode-Santmann School of Health Sciences and the Long Island Dietetic Association are teaming up for the 3rd Annual Food and Nutrition Expo, on Saturday, March 12.
The event - part of National Nutrition Month – will be held in Farmingdale’s Campus Center Ballroom A, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. The Expo is open to the public, free of charge. Donations of non-perishable food for Island Harvest are encouraged.
The Expo will include nutrition information, free snack samples, food demonstrations, raffles, health screenings, information display tables, and more. Dietitian nutritionists and dietetic technicians will be on hand, joined by dietetic, dental, nursing and medical lab technology students from the School of Health Sciences.
“Whether it's blood pressure screenings, diabetes risk-assessment screening, or emphasizing the importance of dental health, our students are active in promoting health within the communities that Farmingdale State College serves," says Monica Diamond-Caravella, professor in Farmingdale’s nursing department.
"There is nothing more valuable than your health. Let us guide you on the path to better health through nutrition. You are worth it!” says Tracey Giambertone RDN, CDN, Co-President, Long Island Dietetic Association. The LIDA mission is to educate the community on the importance of proper nutrition, and connect the public to local food and nutrition experts.
