International Energy and Sustainability Conference 2013

Farmingdale State College to repeat success of last year’s conference

The theme of Farmingdale State College's second International Energy and Sustainability Conference is "Renewables in Smart Grid Technology for a Sustainable Future." This all-day conference will be held on Friday, March 22 in Roosevelt Hall.

Keynote speaker Dr. Richard Perez, research professor at the University at Albany's Atmospheric Sciences Research Center, will speak on "The Value of Solar:  Does it compute or not?"  This is especially apt since Farmingdale State is the site of the first utility scale photovoltaic demonstration project in the northeast U.S.A. Installations of three 20 KW units took place in 1992, with an additional 20 KW unit installed in 1993.

Farmingdale President Dr. Hubert Keen will welcome the more than 250 participants who are expected to register.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone will provide opening remarks.

Dr. Kamal Shahrabi, Dean of Farmingdale's School of Engineering Technology will present a Smart Grid demonstration.

A panel which will discuss local and regional policies in promoting renewable technologies and energy conservation will feature Adrianne Espositio of Citizens Campaign for the Environment, Gordian Raacke of RELI, Sail Van Nostrand of LISEA/NYSEA, Valerie Strauss of Alliance for Clean Energy, and Guy Sliker of NYPA, as well as a representative from LIPA.

A presentation by TESLA Science Center will take place just before lunch Workshop sessions include Energy Conservation & Sustainability, the Green Building Institute and Cyber Security & Smart Energy Systems.  For details on the conference agenda:: http://www.farmingdale.edu/academics/centers-institutes/resc/conferences/iesc2013/agenda.shtml.

More than 30 vendors are expected to display their products. Throughout the day, attendees are invited to test drive electric vehicles.

The conference will bring together the latest research and development works in energy and related topics, along with industrial and management challenges. Experts in research as well as in industry will be invited to present the emerging technologies and future directions in their field. Prospective authors have been invited to submit original technical papers for presentation. Conference content will be submitted for inclusion into IEEE Xplore as well as other Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases.

Farmingdale State College is ABET accredited and is thereby recognized by NYSED for the issuance of PDH credit for professional engineers and architects.
