Farmingdale State Physics Department Chair and Professor is Recipient of PhD Alumni Achievement Award
Dr. Lloyd Makarowitz, chair and professor of the Department of Physics at Farmingdale State College has been selected -- by unanimous vote of the Board of Directors of the Ph.D. Alumni Association of the City University of New York - as a recipient of the 2008 PhD Alumni Achievement Award. Dr. Makarowitz will be honored at an awards ceremony on Wednesday, May 7.
Dr. Makarowitz has been an active member of the campus community, serving on key committees such as the Farmingdale Executive Committee. In addition, he has served as Presiding Officer of the Faculty and, in that capacity, serves as escort to the Grand Marshal at commencement. He earned his BS in physics from City College of New York and his MA in physics from Columbia University . He also earned his PhD in physics from the City University of New York. Dr. Makarowitz is a member of the American Physical Society, the American Association of Physics Teachers, and the New York Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Makarowitz resides in Jericho with his wife, Wendy. He has two sons, Jonathan and Seth, and two stepsons, Philip and Michael. He and Wendy have eight grandchildren.
