Farmingdale State Biology Professor Mentors Award Winning West Babylon Student
One of the students that Biology Professor Dr. Robert Elgart has mentored over the past several months, Kaarina Hanington of West Babylon Junior High School, recently won the 8th Grade Science Fair. Over their months of work together, Kaarina logged in about 100 hours of research on the effectiveness of various washes in reducing bacterial contamination from fruits and vegetables. According to her mother, Georgia Binns, Director of Manufacturing at AGI Dermatics in Freeport, this isn't the first time that Kaarina's work has been recognized. She won the New York State Science and Engineering Fair in the 6th grade and progressed to one of 400 semi-finalist students in the national Discovery Channel competition. Kaarina, a resident of Babylon, will next submit her research to the New York State Science & Engineering Fair.
