Poet Keith Flynn to Speak at Farmingdale State College
Keith Flynn Farmingdale State College's Visiting Writers Program is pleased to present poet Keith Flynn on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the Ward Hall Great Room. The public is invited to this free event at which Mr. Flynn will read from his poetry.
Mr. Flynn is the author of three collections of poetry: The Talking Drum , The Book of Monsters and The Lost Sea . His poems have appeared in scores of magazines and journals in the United States and Europe, including The Carolina Quarterly, The Colorado Review, Crazyhorse, The Cuirt Journal (Ireland), Earth and Soul: The Kostroma Anthology (Russia), The 20th Century Anthology of NC Poets, Poetry Wales, Shenandoah, Rattle, and The Southern Poetry Review.
In 1987 he formed the nationally acclaimed rock band, The Crystal Zoo, which produced three albums: Swimming Through Lake Eerie (1992), Pouch (1996) and Nervous Splendor (2002).
In 1996 Mr. Flynn was awarded the Paumanok Poetry Prize. He has been awarded the Sandburg Prize for poetry, and received numerous Pushcart nominations. His last collection, The Lost Sea, made several critic's Top Ten Lists for 2000 and was a runner-up for the Oscar Arnold Young Book Prize from the NC Poetry Society. Mr. Flynn has twice been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. He is also founder and managing editor of Asheville Poetry Review. He has two books forthcoming, a collection of poems, The Golden Ratio, and a collection of essays, The Rhythm Method, Razzmatazz and Memory: How To Make Your Poetry Swing , (Feb, 2007, Writer's Digest Books).
Mr. Flynn lives in Marshall, NC with his wife, Aimee, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
