On Friday, January 19, Farmingdale State College celebrated its fourth annual Winter Commencement ceremony.  With more than 200 eligible degree candidates, Roosevelt Hall was filled with graduates and their families.

Officer-in-Charge George P. LaRosa introduced keynote speaker and New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) by thanking him for his commitment to the college. The senator’s commitment has resulted in many funded projects such as the new baseball stadium, increased support for disabled students, MADD’s Garden of Awareness, and $20 million to fund the College’s first Student Union.

Senator Fuschillo acknowledged Mr. LaRosa’s capable stewardship of the college from August 2006 to January 2007.  He then thanked Farmingdale State’s new president Dr. W. Hubert Keen for inviting him to speak and noted, “Having served here as a provost, Dr. Keen is familiar with the college and its wonderful faculty and student body. He respects its traditions and knows its potential for future success. I congratulate him on his new position, and look forward to working with him to help Farmingdale State continue to grow and prosper.”

In his remarks, Senator Fuschillo offered congratulations and encouragement for the future to all the graduates.  He suggested that each graduate would be remembered for how they touch others’ lives. He offered each of them a new job, saying “Your new job is to go out into the world and be someone else’s special person. Help them the way others helped you.”  He promised that the time will come when “you will realize that it is one of the most rewarding jobs you’ll ever have in your life.”
