Five Outstanding Farmingdale State Students
On April 18, 2007, five Farmingdale State College students were honored by John R. Ryan, Chancellor of the State University of New York, as recipients of the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence. Since 1998 the awards have been given out annually to students who earn a Grade Point Average of 3.78 or higher and record a significant contribution to their campus or local community. Twenty-eight Farmingdale State students have received this honor.
A Lindenhurst resident and Business Administration major, Denise Botiglione is employed as a secretary in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology departments and in the Solar Energy Center. She is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society and has been chapter secretary for 4 years. Ms. Botiglione is also a member of Alpha Beta Gamma Business Honor Society. She has demonstrated her leadership abilities on campus and in the community, Her activities have included organizing holiday parties for the Child Care Center, campus fundraising, food drives, Relay for Life and the Chase Corporate Challenge.
A Lindenhurst resident, Robin A. Dunnis a Business Administration major. Ms. Dunn is a member of the Mu Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and Alpha Beta Gamma International Business Honor Society. She has volunteered for various campus and community activities including Relay for Life, Campus Clean-up Day, Open House, Accepted Student Day, and Commencement (2000-06). In addition, Ms. Dunn served as a Tri-Partite Grievance panel member from 2003-04.
A Levittown resident and Management of Technology major, April Orthner served as president of the Sigma Beta Delta Business Honor Society, president of the APICS Student Chapter, Treasurer of the Business Club, and secretary of the APICS Long Island Chapter. Ms. Orthner received various awards including both first and third place in a 2002 poetry contest, the 2006 National Sigma Beta Delta Richard C. Scott Fellowship, three awards for the Farmingdale Chapter and the 2006 Laffin Memorial Scholarship.
A Lindenhurst resident and Computer Programming & Information Systems major, Janine Segalini has demonstrated abilities as a leader on campus and in community service organizations including, Island Harvest and The Nature Conservancy. Ms. Segalini has been a Notary Public of the State of New York for several years and has been a Paralegal with private law firms for over 25 years. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Beta Gamma, and Sigma Beta Delta Honor Societies. In addition, Ms. Segalini has received various awards including Frank J. DelBene Memorial Scholarship, Alpha Beta Gamma Scholarship and the 2006 Volunteer Recognition Award from Island Harvest (Food Rescue).
A Medford resident and Liberal Arts and Sciences major, Rachele Fischer has been on both the Dean’s List and the President’s List. She is president of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. Ms. Fischer is a member of the Farmingdale State College softball team and pitched her first complete game no hitter on May 22, 2006. She also volunteers as an EMT for South Country Ambulance Company.
The Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence was created to recognize students who have best demonstrated, and been recognized for, the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts or career achievement.
