1. Who is eligible for an Email account?
ALL currently registered students are assigned email accounts.

2. What is my Email Student Account username?
Usernames are created by taking the first four characters of your last name, your first initial and your middle initial (if available).

In some instances, this will result in a duplicate username. In these cases a random number will be appended to the end of the username.   Some examples:

John K. Smith SMITJK
Susan Johnson JOHNS
Stacy Johnson JOHNS32
Al Yee YEEA

Your Student account is usually available on the day after you register. The account name will be printed on your Student Class Schedule.  

You will have an email account as long as you are a registered student or until you graduate.

3. What is the password for my Email account?
Your initial password will be your birth date (MMDDYY) PLUS the *last* four digits of your social security number.   Some examples:

Date of Birth Social Security Password

4. How do I change my Email password?
In order to change your student email password, clink on the following link...  Telnet to Farmingdale State College  (this link will not work in Internet Explorer 7) or go to Start... Run... and type in:  telnet farmingdale.edu.

Log into the system with your Email username and password

At the $ prompt type:  set password

Follow the prompts to enter:   Old password:
                                          New password:
                                         
Verification:

Once your password has been changed, close the window by entering "LO" at the $ prompt.

5. How can I access my Farmingdale Email?
WEBMAIL: - This mail program is a very user-friendly email client.

From any Web Browser, simply enter:   http://webmail.farmingdale.edu

You will then be prompted for your account name and password. After you login, you can begin reading or composing mail. Webmail has a graphical interface, provides many features, including a spell checker, and supports attachments.  Click on the following link for a WebMail Handout (pdf).

6. Do I have to worry about Email viruses?
YES!! - everyone sending or receiving Internet mail should be concerned about Email viruses infecting their computers. You should install virus scanning software on your PC and KEEP IT CURRENT. (If you don't regularly or automatically update your virus signatures, you will NOT be protected!!) In addition, Farmingdale's Email server also scans incoming and outgoing messages for viruses.

7. How do I setup my system at home?
When using WEBMAIL, no configuration or setup is required.  Simply enter:  http://webmail.farmingdale.edu from any web browser, supply the correct account and password, and you will be ready to send/receive e-mail.
