What is the Degree Program?
The Liberal Arts and Sciences Program at Farmingdale State University
of New York grants an Associate
of Arts degree which prepares students for junior level study
at either Farmingdale State University of New York or other four-year
colleges.
The Liberal Arts and Sciences program is committed to providing
a broad-based liberal arts and sciences education which prepares
students for junior level study in a variety of majors.
The degree is flexible enough to ease students' transfer to four-year
degree programs in the following areas:
Behavioral and non-behavioral social sciences, English,
modern languages
- education
- business administration
- law
- communications
- psychology
- social work
- technical communications
- industrial management
- security systems
- and many others
Biology and the allied health professions
- medicine
- dentistry
- cardiorespiratory sciences
- physical and occupational therapy
- physician's assistant
- pharmacy
- nursing and chiropractic medicine
Traditional degrees in chemistry, physics and math
How do I start?
Each student's schedule of courses is arranged in consultation
with a program advisor. We strongly encourage all Liberal Arts and
Sciences students to meet with a Liberal
Arts faculty advisor as soon as possible.
What's required?
Entrance Requirements
- Mathematics: Sequential (integrated) Math
1 & 2 or equivalent
- Science: 2 units (Biology, Chemistry,
or Physics recommended)
Program of Study
The Liberal Arts and Sciences program
of study lists the required courses for the degree program.
A total of 62–65 credits are required for graduation. Most
students complete the degree requirements within two years, assuming
that the student maintains a full course load.
Students are required to fulfill at least ten General
Education course requirements as part of their preparation for
upper degree study.
Important Events
Registration
In-person registration takes place twice a year in Gleeson
Hall (basement). Please make sure that you follow the Liberal
Arts and Science important
registration information carefully.
Open Advisement
New Liberal Arts and Sciences students can make an appointment
with an academic
advisor prior to the open
advisement period where they can be sure that their needs will
be met.
Currently enrolled Liberal Arts and Sciences students may
walk-in on a first-come first-served basis any time during the semester
and must be advised before the end of the open advisement
period.
The Liberal Arts and Sciences department is located in Memorial Hall , Room 100. The office is open every weekday from 9:00 am
to 4:30 pm.
