Welcome to the Medical Laboratory Technology Department at Farmingdale
State University of New York.
You are exploring a most exciting and challenging career!
The Medical Laboratory Technology program at Farmingdale State prepares
its graduates for entry-level professional employment in the field
of laboratory medicine. Medical Laboratory Technicians are trained
to perform testing in all areas of the laboratory, including hematology,
microbiology, immunohematology (blood banking) and clinical chemistry,
and are employed in a variety of settings. The program includes
education in all of these areas, as well as a solid background in
biology and chemistry as a foundation for the clinical courses.
The Farmingdale State Medical Laboratory Technology curriculum
is of exceptional quality, meeting the educational standards set
by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science
(NAACLS). Because the program is NAACLS accredited, graduates are
eligible to take the national certification examination offered
by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Registry
(ASCP-BOR) directly upon completion of the degree. Certification
examination pass rate for Farmingdale State graduates has met or
exceeded the national pass rate for the past several years.
Additional highlights of the program include:
- State-of-the-art student laboratories equipped with automated
instrumentation, digital video microscopy and a computer center
- Nationally recognized faculty and staff
- Centrally located clinical affiliates for off-campus clinical
experience
- One year “fast-track” option for students meeting
Liberal arts and Biology/Chemistry requirements
- On-line course availability for select MLT courses and support
