We are excited to update you on our Alumni events and have several Alumni Awards and Scholarships to tell you about.
Our recent Alumni Awards Ceremony was a wonderful event. This year's celebration focused on the College's solar energy and sustainability initiatives and included esteemed alumni from our Department of Urban Horticulture & Design and the School of Engineering Technology. It was a wonderful celebration of camaraderie and, as our premier fundraiser, it was a great success. We are privileged to have such a dedicated group of alumni who continue to show support for their alma mater. To view photos of the event, click 2014 DINNER.
Our annual Mark Ellis Walk was held on campus on Saturday, April 5. Local police precincts showed their support with Police Officers and K-9 Units who walked in honor of Mark, a 1997 Criminal Justice graduate who perished on 9/11. Donations collected from the walk are used for the Mark Ellis Memorial Scholarship Fund. It was a beautiful day of remembrance and support. To view photos of the event, click on 2014 ELLIS WALK.

This month we have twin brothers in the news. The Ruggiero brothers, 61 year old identical twins, will graduate together on May 17, 2014. Although Robert Ruggiero completed all degree requirements in 1973 he did not attend commencement because his brother Ronnie was 3 credits short and could not graduate. Ronnie recently completed those 3 credits and so both brothers will walk together this year for this one-of-a-kind moment! Read all about it here: RUGGIERO BROTHERS GRADUATE.
ALUMNI IN THE NEWS
A recent art show on Long Island highlighted the work of FSC students. The Babylon Art Festival, co-created by FSC alumna Theresa Santmann, began as a way to help bring back art into the schools. The Festival has since grown to include local colleges including Farmingdale State College. At this year's show, several FSC students won awards. Read more about it at ART SHOW.
Hurricane Sandy relief is still needed. Many families are still in need of service after this devastating storm. The Civilian Emergency Response Corps is looking for volunteers. Our most vulnerable populations are still struggling including seniors and special needs individuals. Many of our alumni were affected by this terrible event and if any alumni feel they have the time and skills to assist, even for a few hours, it would be greatly appreciated. Please read the FLYER and learn how you can help.
Homecoming/Reunion Weekend, October 18-19, 2014. We continue to plan this special weekend for all alumni, especially our 50th and 60th year reunion alumni from the classes of 1954 and 1964. This year the reunion coincides with Homecoming/Family Weekend which will include a barbecue on the Great Lawn on Saturday afternoon with alumni baseball, soccer games and family activities as well as music and other amusements. More information to come.
Alumni & Friends Night Out With The Ducks, September 20, 2014. This is an annual Alumni event at Bethpage Stadium to see a Long Island Ducks baseball game. This year they'll be playing the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at 7:05 p.m. Join us for a night of family, fun and fireworks.
