Accreditation

Accreditation is the educational community’s means of self-regulation through quality assurance and improvement.  The accrediting process is intended to strengthen and sustain the quality and integrity of higher education, making it worthy of public confidence.

Farmingdale State College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104, (267)284-5000.

Current Accreditation Activities:

Farmingdale State College is currently preparing its Periodic Review Report.  This report is conducted midway through the accreditation cycle to document the institutions continued commitment to upholding the accreditation standards.  The Periodic Review Report is due to the Middle States Commission on June 1, 2016. Any Third-party Comments must be submitted to the Commission prior to April 1, 2016.

Third-party Comment:

Third-party comments are those comments submitted to the Commission outside of official communication between an institution and the Commission. The Commission’s third-party comment procedures are created to provide the opportunity for information about an institution’s compliance or ability to comply with the Commission’s requirements of affiliation and accreditation standards or an institution’s own standard operating procedures and policies to be shared with the institution and the Commission.  Third-party comments are typically considered at times when an institution is completing a decennial self-study, a five-year Periodic Review Report, or a Commission-mandated follow-up report, such as a Monitoring Report or a Progress Report.

Such comments must be written and signed, and cannot be anonymous to the Commission.  All third-party comments must be addressed specifically to one or more of the Commission’s requirements of affiliation or accreditation standards. These requirements and standards appear in Characteristics of Excellence in Higher Education Requirements of Affiliation and Standards for Accreditation. Please visit the Middle States Commissions website for further information and access to the Commission’s Third-party Comment Form.

Complaints Involving Member and Candidate Institutions:

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education recognizes the value of information provided by students, employees, and others in determining whether an institution’s performance is consistent with the Commission’s standards and expectations for accreditation.  All complaints must be submitted using the Commission’s Official complaint form, completed in its entirety.  Complaints may be submitted electronically, provided they include a copy of the completed complaint form and the required supporting documents.  The complaint should identify the specific standards or fundamental elements, policies, or procedures which have been allegedly violated. As noted on the complaint form, the Commission will not accept anonymous complaints, nor will it act on complaints which are submitted by an individual or agency on behalf of another individual.  All complaints must be submitted using the Commission’s official Complaint Form.
