Farmingdale State College's Pain Management course meets the regulations of the New York State Board for Dentistry allowing Registered Dental Hygienists in New York State to administer local infiltration anesthesia and administer/monitor nitrous oxide-oxygen analgesia for dental hygiene procedures. The Dental Hygiene Department at Farmingdale State College is providing this 45 hour combined lecture and clinical certification program. This course will instruct the Registered Dental Hygienist in the administration of local anesthesia and nitrous oxide – oxygen analgesia for the control of pain and anxiety.

In order to confirm your registration you must submit:
A copy of your current NYS Dental Hygiene Registration Proof of Malpractice Insurance Proof of current CPR Payment of $1,500.00*
* The preferred form of payment is by Personal Check or Money Order payable to Farmingdale State College.
If you wish to pay by credit card you must send in your registration form and once you are notified that you have been registered by the Dental Hygiene Continuing Education Department, you must either:
Come in person to the FSC Campus Student Accounts Office in Laffin Hall to pay
OR Pay on Line (instructions will be sent to you)
The course fee is $1,500 which includes all course materials; however, participants will be responsible for bringing their own books. The first class will meet in Room 114 in Gleeson Hall. A light breakfast will be provided on lecture days. We will send you a temporary parking permit. Please display it on your dashboard and abide by the rules on the reverse side of the permit.
Please note that during the clinical component you will be a patient for your fellow classmates. Attire for the Clinical portion of the class is scrubs and either white sneakers or clinic shoes. Disposable lab coats will be provided. X-rays are required to be on file. If x-rays are available bring them to the clinic session, otherwise they will need to be taken prior to injections.
We will be using the following books:
Handbook of Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen Sedation by Morris Clark and Ann Brunick. Publisher is Elsevier.
Handbook of Local Anesthesia by Stanley Malamed. Publisher is Elsevier.
For your convenience, these books can be purchased in our campus bookstore or on line at amazon.com.
