Welcome to the Department of Architecture & Construction Management at Farmingdale State College! We offer two degree programs. The first is the BS in Construction Management Engineering Technology, one of the leading programs in the region and the second is the BS in Architectural Engineering Technology, the only state supported program in the region. Both programs offer a path to licensure in engineering or architecture and graduate school in addition to being employed directly in the field or profession. The Department has also recently produced two student Fulbright Scholars, Roman Titov in 2012 and Jared Finkelstein in 2010. We have articulation agreements with local community colleges that make us the transfer program of choice for students with associate degrees in construction, civil and architectural technology. History:
The Department of Architecture & Construction Management is the oldest of its kind on Long Island, New York. Our programs have been meeting the needs of the building industry and the design professions in the New York metropolitan region for nearly sixty years. The Building Construction and Highway & Bridge Construction curriculums were originally started in 1946. The first programs to be nationally accredited by TAC - ABET in the Department were the Civil Engineering Technology and Construction - Architectural Engineering Technology in 1965. In the early 1990's, the College was elevated to full four-year status and shortly thereafter the Bachelor of Science in Construction Management program was started. Our newest program is Bachelor of Science in Architectural Technology. As we enter the twenty-first century, the Department has deactivated all of its associate degree programs and is now focusing on professional baccalaureate degree programs. The Department is also looking to the future in planning a number of graduate and post-baccalaureate diploma programs.
Student Internships:
Our 90 hour, 3 credit, internship program offers students the opportunity work for architectural, engineering or construction firms, corporate facilities departments, or local town and village planning and building departments. This experience often leads to part and full time employment as well as building experience on your resume.
Career Opportunities:
Our programs are not limited to finding just one job. They will give you a solid undergraduate education with a major in architecture or construction management and are designed to open as many career doors as possible. Successful graduates have gone on to:
