Brian Thoms is Assistant Professor of Computer Systems at Farmingdale State College since 2010. He received his Ph.D. in Information Systems and Technology from Claremont Graduate University, his M.I.S. in Information Systems from Stevens Tech and his B.S. in Computer Science from Fordham University.
Brian has worked in the IT sector since 1997 providing strategic software solutions on and off Wall Street. Today, his primary research measures the impact of social technologies on learning and interaction within higher education. In 2007, his paper titled, "Resurrecting Graduate Conversation through an Online Learning Community," won the award for Best Research Paper at the IADIS Multi-Conference on Computer Science and Information Systems. His latest publication, "How Media Choice Affects Learner Interactions in Distance Learning Classes," was published in the journal, Computers & Education.
Brian is also Chief Software Engineer for HealthEServices.com, which provides personal health management for at-risk populations.
