Biography

Brian Thoms is Assistant Professor of Computer Systems at Farmingdale State College since 2010. He received his Ph.D. in Information Systems and Technology from Claremont Graduate University, his M.I.S. in Information Systems from Stevens Tech and his B.S. in Computer Science from Fordham University.

Brian has worked in the IT sector since 1997 providing strategic software solutions on and off Wall Street. Today, his primary research measures the impact of social technologies on learning and interaction within higher education. In 2013, his IEEE paper titled, “A Dynamic Social Feedback System to Support Learning and Social Interaction in Higher Education,” won the CTLT Outstanding Scholarly Publication Award. His latest publication, "Student Perceptions of Microblogging: Integrating Twitter with Blogging to Support Learning and Interaction," was published in the Journal of Information Technology Education

Brian is also Chief Software Engineer for HealthATM.com, which provides personal health management for at-risk populations.
