The study of other languages can be your "passport" to

  • an appreciation of other cultures
  • critical and analytical thinking
  • career enhancement
  • a broader vision of the world
  • a better understanding of one's own language

The Modern Languages Department offers a variety of courses in Arabic, Chinese, German,  French, Italian and Spanish as well as a number of elective courses which include  languages for special purposes (such as business and health careers) and  several culture courses given in English. There is also a Spanish course for  native speakers.

There are four full-time faculty members that include recipients of a Fulbright   Scholar Award, the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Nuala   Drescher Award, and several NYS/UUP Excellence Awards.
