25th ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON THE

TEACHING OF PSYCHOLOGY:

IDEAS & INNOVATIONS

 

Conference Theme for 2011:

The future of the undergraduate psychology major:

New directions in an evolving educational climate

 

Dates: March 25-26, 2011

Location: DoubleTree Hotel Tarrytown, NY

Deadline for Submissions: November 18, 2010

 

We invite you to submit your proposals for the 2011 conference. Presentations can cover any topic related to the teaching of psychology. Those related to this year’s theme are especially encouraged. Other topics may include active learning, pedagogical innovations, international psychology, classroom technology, distance learning, mentoring, writing textbooks, program assessment, or evaluation. Proposals for oral presentations, panels, workshops, and round table discussions will be considered. We will have a student poster session where undergraduate students can present their research activities in any area of psychology.

SUBMISSION PROCESS (deadline November 18, 2010)

PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Your submission should include:

 

-   Name, affiliation, and contact information for all presenters

 

-   Title of your presentation

o   Presentation topic (select from list below)

o   Presentation format (select from list below)

 

-   A short abstract (50 – 100 words)

 

-   A 2 -3 page description of your proposed presentation

o    For workshops, descriptions should clearly indicate how participants will be involved in the session.

 

-   Technology requirements (select from list below)

 

-   Scheduling requests (days / times that you are unable to present)

 

Presentation Topics May Include

Presentation Format

 

-   Oral Presentation: One or more speakers present the results of an individual or collaborative research project in a 30-minute session. 

 

-   Panel:  Focused 60-minute session in which individual speakers present their views on a common issue.  The format of a symposium typically contains an introduction of the topic by the chairperson and then the presentation of several individual views / papers on the topic.  Participants in a symposium should include a chairperson and at least two other presenters.  

 

-   Workshop:  60-minute sessions design to teach skills and practical applications of theory and research findings.  Workshop facilitators should utilize a hands-on presentation style in which learning objectives are achieved through active (not passive) involvement of participants. 

 

-   Round Table Discussion:  Informal 60-minute discussions / exchange of ideas on a focal topic between the audience and one or two presenters.  The presenter(s) typically make(s) brief opening remarks on the focal topic and then the audience is free to ask questions and discuss relevant issues in more detail. 

 

-   Undergraduate Student Poster Session:  60-minute joint session during which undergraduate students will display results of research activity in any area of psychology.
